Scary Things that Happen

Well for those of you who may not know our son Brandon gets very nervous and scared when he has any medical stuff to deal with. Having had an eye removed at a year and a half seems to really make it hard to trust, and not be afraid of doctors. I have always tried to be as honest as I can about what is going on in hopes to prepare him and comfort him for whatever it is. Well, he had a bunch of high fevers off and on throughout the year about 1 1/2 to 2 years ago. I knew there had to be something going on that was not being addressed, because why else would he keep getting these high fevers. Well I believe the Lord led me to the answer to check his urine, and we found out he was getting urinary infections. This is very rare in boys and men. They finally sent us to a specialist, of which I was grateful. They did an ultrasound to see the bladder and kidneys. That at first was scary to him. They also did a test called a VCUG for short. It is a test that they cathertrize a person for. Then they fill the bladder up with fluid. They show all of this on an x-ray kind of video where you can watch what is happening. It obviously makes the person want to urinate. They are not to do so until told to. When he did this test last year they found he has bilateral reflux. What that means is the urine travels from the kidneys to through the ureters to the bladder and then out normally. In the case of reflux it goes from the kidneys through the ureters to the bladder and then back up which can cause kidney infections and damage. For a year he has been on medication to help prevent the urinary infections so it won't damage the kidney. Sometimes it corrects itself and other times surgery is needed and can correct the problem 90% of the time. I intentionally did not tell Brandon about this test because I did not want him to stress at school about it all day. So I went to pick him up at about 1:45 from school and of course he is wondering what is going on, and I told him you have a doctors appointment. He said is it the penis doctor. I said no it is the test for him. The ultrasound, and in my mind I was debating telling him about the other test yet. Well he asked and I just couldn't nor did I wnat to lie to him. I told him. He said I hate that test it scares me and start crying. Well I needed to go home first, because I was going to give him medication "Benadryl" to help calm him down as suggested by the nurse. When I stopped he got out, and Baylee took her seat belt off and climbed into the back of the van. This a keep away type of game she likes to play. Well Brandon was in the front yard and said I'm not going and I'm going to run away. of course I yelled after him, but could not leave Baylee in the car. So I had to get her back in her car seat, and chase after him in the van. That was not quick task. Baylee was not cooperating at first. I looked to see which way he headed, then once we were all seat belted went after him. I searched the whole neighborhood, carefully looking by trees, bushes, and walls where I thought he mihgt hide, because I thought there is no way he got very far. I prayed and continued my search and thought to head over towards the school, which I did. I did not see him. So the next thing I thought is maybe he'll head back home on his own and I need help, so I called 911 and told the police and they were to come and I was to wait. Waiting is not an easy thing when you're scared about you're childs safety. Then I got a call from the school and they said he was there, and that I should come get him. So I called 911 back and cancelled the emergency call. I had also called Merik and told him I need him and that Brandon ran away. He was at work and planned to be there for the proceedure and I told I need you now. He told me to bring the consecrated oil so he could give him a blessing and me. I went down the street in the van and got to the end and not wanting to give him a chance to repeat the run away problem I decided to see if my neighbor was home that said she watch Baylee and drop her off a little earlier so I could go directly to the hospital. She had just driven up in her drive way and said no problem after I told what had happened. I went and picked Brandon up and he was with the school counselor. She introduced me to a student working on recieving a counseling degree and said her name was Wendy and they had some things for him. One of the things was from Wendy and it was a tattoo of a "firebird plane" from the LV firebirds her husband is a pilot and asked if it was okay for him to have it to help him feel brave and the other thing was the Colt of the Cunnningham Colts mascot. A stuffed "Colt" puppet. This was to help him be strong and brave. He was to return it the next day. I gave Brandon a big hug and told him he scared me, I love him, and I am glad he is okay and that the school is where he went. Merik left work and met me at the hospital parking lot at Sunrise. When we found him he gave us both blessings in the van in the parking lot before we went in. I had bought Taco Bell before I went home to help ease the potential situation, and they ate it while I checked Brandon in. Things went well, he was very scared of the VCUG, but did well with the ultrasound. He screamed when they inserted the tube and then calmed down. We had to hold him still while they did this. Afterwards they gave him a big Shrek doll. He loved that! I am truly grateful for the help the Lord gave us and that things worked out. By the way the doctor there said the one side is improved greatly and almost gone, but the other side is still the same. They told us that sometimes it will correct itself. The doctor will help us determine what to do at this point

Mother Spotlight

To all of us moms "Happy Mothers Day". May your day be great! Think about the best in your moms and try to follow their example. That is a big shoe to fill in my case. I love my mother and feel extremely blessed to have her. She is very kind, forgiving, loving, patient, my best friend, and a strength to me. She bends over backwards to help people out whenever she can, and she loves the Lord. She is a shining star to me. She is loved by everyone of her children, grandchildren, mother, and friends.
